Katy Sealy Junior Women Heptathlon

It was a busy weekend following a busy season for Katy Sealy, winning Gold in the East and Suffolk U20 Heptathlon and Silver in the South of England Championships. Just one week after finishing 10th at the English Schools Senior Girls Heptathlon in Birmingham , Katy has now added the Suffolk County Heptathlon title to her individual titles in the High Jump, Long Jump, Javelin, Shot and 100m Hurdles, won earlier in the year. At Bedford she increased her points score to 4180 narrowly missing her season's target of 4200 points. That’s an improvement of 415 points since June 2008. She started well with a Personal Best (PB) in the 100 metre hurdles of 16.72s. In the following High Jump, Katy secured another excellent PB with her first attempt clearance of 1.63 metres.  It was only by the narrowest of margins that she didn't add 1.66m to her best performance. After a satisfactory performance in the Shot Putt of 9.02m. the day ended on another high with a good run over 200m in a time of 28.15s which equalled her previous best. At the end of day one Katy had amassed a total of 2483 points an improvement on her achievement at Birmingham the previous week.

Day 2 opened with another strong performance in the Long Jump which saw Katy twice exceed 5 metres with a best jump of 5.09m, just 1cm short of her season's best and 5 cm shy of her lifetime best jump.  In arguably her strongest event, valuable points were gained with a Javelin Throw of 35.88m. As always the two day event ended with a run of 800 metres which she completed in a time of 2m 44.24s. When all the points were calculated Katy had achieved a silver medal in the South of England Championships and Gold medals for the Eastern Championships and Suffolk County Championships.

Katy now ranks 15th of all U20 heptathletes and, with another year as an U20, has set herself the target of reaching the national standard of 4600 points next year.

Congratulations to Katy and to all the Suffolk athletes. We are very proud of you all.
