If an athlete is already a first claim member of any affiliated athletics club and wants to change clubs, there are specific rules that have to be followed. These rules are all in the UKA Rule Book but have been simplified in to two documents explaining the procedure that must be followed in all cases.

In such a case, the athlete must first resign, in writing, from the current first claim club.

An application for transfer has then to be completed and submitted to England Athletics with a fee of £10. If the original club does not oppose transfer (usually only applies if subscription is outstanding), Then transfer will be approved and the athlete will be eligible to compete in team competitions for their new club after 6 months have elapsed from the date of Eligibility Decision being made. An exception to this 6 month suspension period is for athletes under 15 years of age who can transfer once whilst in that age group and compete on the first day of the following month. The £10 fee is also not payable for this group of athletes. The suspension does not apply to individual competitions.
